East Algarve July Issue
Summer is finally here, the kids are off school for three months, and I will probably go a little insane. As Tavira celebrated Saint John’s day in June, I took a stroll around the town, to admire the beautifully decorated streets, and whilst on my travels, visited a couple of places that I hadn’t seen before, out of curiosity. We feature a fresh summer dish from Museu do Vinho, meet up with Ana, owner and chef, from Ana’s restaurant in Moncarapacho, and find out more about Dr. Ken Hamilton’s Chiropractic procedures. We bring you the usual, helpful gardening advice from Mark O’Shaughnessy, how to keep safe in the sun from Gareth Bullock, Elizabeth’s book review, and all the sporting news from Chris Wright. I hope you find time to visit Tavira this month.
As you will see in the What’s on Guide, there is plenty to see, and do. Have a relaxing, sun soaked July.
With reference to your recent feature on The Tavira restaurant Museu do Vinho.
Your description bears no recognition of the restaurant of the same name I ate in. The staff were unfriendly the food was appalling and I have since heard nothing but bad comments from people who have eaten there. One couple were actually overcharged on their bill. You must have hit it lucky the night you went? For starters we had to wait 45 minutes for scallops gratinee and when they finally arrived the dish had been microwaved. The only hint of Thai flavours in my king prawn starter was a slice of pineapple sitting in a tasteless gravy. When our so called Ribeye steaks were put in front of us I called the maitre d´over and told him that what we had been served were not ribeye steaks. What would you call them he said.I replied excuse me if I´m wrong in thinking you are french, but in your country this cut of beef would be called Pave de boeuf. Oh he said I translated the menu and I must have made a mistake!!!!he certainly did, and one year later I have checked and this item remains the same on his menu. Needless to say we wont be returning or recommending this establishment.
